The Nagging Bone

After dinner last night I mentioned that I heard the weather was supposed to hit the mid sixties Friday and my husband said it was supposed to be the same Saturday, but actually he’s wrong, it’s only going to be in the high forties, nevertheless, after he told me that and before I knew the actual forecast, I said, “Well if it’s going to be in the mid sixties on Saturday, you can get started on trimming the Arborvitaes.”

“Ow, my back!” He screeched and grabbed his lower back as if he was in horrific pain.

Our son, Austin, came into the kitchen and gently prodded his dads back then said, “It’s the nagging bone, Dad, it’s really bad.” Then he wrapped his arms around his dad’s shoulders, which lead to Madea, our German Shepherd mix, going ballistic.

“See what YOU did,” my husband said, blaming ME for her barking when he hugs any one of us.

“It’s not MY fault,” I said as I shined my halo and flapped my angel wings.

“Yes it is. You’re the one who yelled help all those times I pretended to smack you and now I can’t even TOUCH anyone.” He did have a point, although Madea always whined or barked if he hugged or touched any one of us. She’s louder now though, since, like he said, I yelled help a dozen few times for no reason other than to jack him off.

“No, she’s JEALOUS.” I really believe that she is.

“She is not.”

“Yes she is. She wants you all to herself.” I’ve always told him this because any time I even snuggle up to him, Madea is there pushing her nose in the middle, whining—and she’s REALLY loud.

“Oh great spin there, Pam.”

“You’re the best spinner, Beckel.” That brought forth a huge laugh from him because he watches The Five and the one co-host, Bob Beckel, can really tick him off. I guess it’s a good thing WE can joke around!

Anyway, I sure hope that nagging bone of his (which means he has 207 bones) is better by Saturday because those Arborvitaes have been sorely neglected and look like hell. I told him on the patio, during our cigarette break, “If you don’t trim the Arborvitaes, I’m hiring a landscaper.”

“If you do THAT, you won’t have money for Darbie and Ben’s shit.”

“Oh, but I will, because I’ll use MY money for their stuff and YOUR money for the landscaping.”

“I thought it was OUR money.”

“Cigarette break is over. Time to get back to the movie!” I returned to the game room and un-paused Cowboys and Aliens, the movie we were watching from On-Demand. The conversation was soon forgotten, but my honey-do list sure wasn’t—it’s getting longer and longer, so he better get that nagging bone fixed and quick or pay a landscaper bill.

Knowing him like I do, he’ll fix the nagging bone—I just hope he doesn’t fix it by sending me to live with my mom and dad. Although, my dad did tell him, “no trade backs”, so maybe I’m safe.

  1. Luke's nagging bone is about to start hurting him as I am coming down with a raging case of "lets redecorate every damn thing" fever...

    1. Grammy, I think your fever might be highly contagious...I feel one coming on RIGHT NOW!

  2. Our Lab-mix Roscoe does the same thing when Hubs grabs me, or I hug him. Hubs always calls him over to join in and he stops barking so I guess he just wants to be included. I loved Cowboys and Aliens!

    1. Bubbe, Madea doesn't want to be included, she wants to be the ONLY one! Jealous bitch. ;-)

I really liked Cowboys and Aliens too. I found a blooper. When they show Daniel Craig riding his horse up the hill from far away, he's NOT wearing his bracelet (I looked because I couldn't tell if it was him or not). Then on the close-up of Daniel Craig, he has it on. We even rewound to watch it again; blooper. I was all psyched that I found it!

  3. Pamela, what a charming post! It truly gave me a feel for the sense of play and affection that you and your family have for one another. I think it's so awesome that your husband and sons hug one another because you don't see that in many families between fathers and sons.

HAHHAHAHAHAHAHA! OMG, that is so funny!

    You two CRACK ME UP!!!!!!!

Well, I hope his nagging bone is all fixed by Saturday - HA!

Wishing you and your family a super-duper weekend!

    1. Ron, we do goof around a lot. And it is great that my husband is close to our sons; he's an awesome dad.

Guess what? His "nagging bone" was fixed! He got half the Arborvitaes done today--and it was cold!

Hope you have an awesome weekend too!

  4. I had a Boxer that would go nuts if anyone tried to hug me or touch me, so hugs were few and far between. Funny post with your halo and angel wings!

    1. Our 1st Boxer (she's gone now 2 years) acted just like our Shephered mix, although it was kinda my fault...again...I did the "help" thing. Maybe I have horns instead of a halo! ;-)

  5. We used to have a dog that attacked us whenever we came in close proximity to one another, but it was a tiny little yelper, not a German Shepherd!! I can imagine she's very loud lol. Great story and let us know if he was able to recover from his nagging bone issues ;)

    1. Nate, I had little dogs, before the big ones. They didn't care one iota and probably would've let strangers in and showed them where everything was!

I think the "English Springer Spaniel" part is the loud part on our dog. It's that hunting thing, they need to be loud. Yikes.

My husband recovered today from his "nagging bone" and did get half the Arborvitaes done! I was SHOCKED! And thrilled!
