Tick-Tock A Brunette I’m Not

After dinner, my boys, husband and I were chatting around the table, and we all agreed that we were out of whack due to daylight savings time.

“Except I’m getting up EARLIER!” Hoping if I complained, I’d get SOME sympathy, no matter how small, considering I’m so not a morning person AND I suffer from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which means I sleep very little to begin with. “I woke up at SEVEN-THIRTY this morning,” still trying to elicit SOMETHING, even a sigh, “Think about it. Right now it’s really five o’clock.”

“No it isn’t, it’s six and where ARE you driving this bus?” My husband instantly corrected me and immediately asked the bus driver question— which was rather silly, considering I
ve never driven a bus in the 29 1/2 years that weve been together.

“Yeah it is. We changed the clocks this past weekend. If it were last Wednesday it would be five o’clock right now, not six.” MY rational astounds me sometimes.

“Okay, Blondie, according to YOUR logic, if it were LAST November, it would be seven o’clock right now.”

“No it wouldn’t, because we were already used to THAT time change. We’re not used to THIS ONE yet.”

“Pam, that makes no sense. It’s six o’clock.”

“It makes perfect sense. Doesn’t it?” I looked back and forth, from one son to the other, for positive confirmation to what I considered a perfectly SENSIBLE explanation to an outdated custom, which threw just about everyone out of kilter.

“I’m not gettin’ in the middle.” Shaking his head from side to side, my older son wasn
t about to be swayed.

“I don’t take sides,” my younger son fibbed, because he DOES take sides, when he wants to get one of our goats (not that we actually have goats, but I wouldn’t mind an
Alpaca).

“Brats.” My fav term for when they do something I don
t like, then I proceeded to defend what I considered MY totally SENSIBLE SELF, “Well, at least I’m not like that one guy I used to work with who doesnt know WHERE the hour went!”

“Yeah, at least YOU know where it went.” My husband’s blue eyes crinkled at the corners as he smiled a grin that meant: I love you even though you have way too many blonde moments
