Netflix-Movie Night any Night

Netflix - Now here’s a bargain if there ever was one.

My parents are always telling me, “We’re getting ready to watch a movie.”

I’m like, “What? How many movies can you possibly watch?” I mean really. They are retired and ALWAYS on the go. Between my mom teaching CCD, producing, acting and assisting with props at their local theater, volunteering at their church and my dad volunteering at their church, Knights of Columbus and helping out EVERY neighbor, friend and family member--they are NEVER home. Trying to get one of them to answer their home or one of their 2 cell phones is like trying to find a woman who doesn’t like shoes! I need to put a GPS on the two of them. I have no idea how they have time to eat dinner let alone watch a movie. But they manage to watch 2 movies every week.

But what movies are they watching? They don’t go to the movie theater. They don’t DVR or Tivo or anything like that. So, they do the next best thing. They Netflix.

This isn’t something kinky, either.

Netflix is Blockbuster on steroids. It’s an on-line movie rental company. You sign up and queue your movies on-line. Netflix will charge your debit or credit card for the fee. There are different movie rental plans that range from under $10 to up to $42.

Once you sign up with Netflix, you browse their movie collection, which includes thousands of movies and television shows like House, Lost, Sex in the City and the Sopranos. They even have some oldies, but goodies, like I Dream of Jeannie, Gunsmoke and Three’s Company. You queue the movies or television shows you want and in the order you want them mailed to you. It also gives you the flexibility to change your queue. This system is very easy to use, and believe me I like easy.

I signed up for the 1 movie at a time plan for $8.99 plus tax. I get my DVD in the mail - watch it and mail it back at my leisure using the self-addressed, postage paid envelope Netflix provides. There is no time limit, no late fees, no rush, no fuss. Just relaxing movie time. When Nextflix receives the DVD, they release the next movie in my queue. This normally takes about 3 days. It’s a pretty quick process. With my plan, I’m watching 2 movies a week for less than $10 a month. And I don’t even have to go to the store and stand in an aisle browsing through shelves or bumping into grumpy people to do it. I do all of this from the comfort of my own home, in front of my computer.

Netflix has it all. Great movies, simplicity and best of all, it’s economic. Give it a try and if you don’t like it, cancel at anytime. That’s the Netflix guarantee.

  1. I have thought many times to give netflix a try. We don't get to watch too many movies..but I think if they were already here, we would make the time.
    thanks for the info.
    plus, your parents sound amazing!

  2. Yes, Suz, with the movies coming in the mail, it's so simple. If I had to go to the store, I'd never watch a movie. With Netflix, I just go to my computer! And yes my parents are great role models. I'm aspiring to be like them!
