Meet Me On Monday ~ 5 Fives About Me!

I saw this on another blog and decided to give it a shot. The “rules” say you're suppose to tag five other Bloggers but I don't think it's fair to slam unsuspecting Bloggers because they might not want to participate. If other Bloggers see this and want to join in, fine, if not, that's fine too.

#1 Five Things You Didn't Know About Me:

1. I have a love/hate obsession with knives. For as much as I hate knives, I love them and have a collection of about two dozen with different handles and assorted blades. I have an irrational fear of being stabbed so if the dishwasher is full and there’s a dirty steak/carving knife in the sink, I will hide it beneath a dirty dish, if one doesn’t exist, I will wash the knife, VERY carefully, and put it away.
 2. I’ve been married, divorced and remarried…to the SAME man! Yep, my husband and I got married the first time May 24, 1987, then we got divorced in October 1991 (I don’t remember the exact date because I CHOOSE not to remember!). Then we RE-married May 24, 1992! We’ve had some rocky ass roads, but I can honestly say, I wouldn’t trade him for all the gold in Fort Knox.
3. I like designer labels but I am NOT impressed by them. There is nothing that turns me off more than someone who thinks labels/titles are more important than character.
 4. I’ve been painting my toe nails regularly since I was sixteen years old because I can NOT tolerate bare toe nails or chipped toe nail polish. I don’t like having my pedicures done at a salon. I’m picky as all get out so it’s a good thing I’m a licensed manicurist and can do them myself. Although when I was pregnant it was difficult bending over, so my girlfriend, who’s also a licensed manicurist, did them.
5. I can cook but absolutely HATE it. I was forced to cook when I was around ten or eleven years old and that lasted until I moved out at nineteen. It’s one thing to do it for your OWN children and quite another to HAVE to do it for your younger siblings.

#2 Five Things I’m Knowledgeable About:

1. Fashion! I can put anything together and make it look good. I have an eye for what compliments other people, too. It doesn’t take a ton of money to look good, either. Also, trends and fads don’t look good on everyone, so go with what looks good on YOU!
 2. Taxes. Not only have I been doing my own taxes since I was eighteen, I was a Corporate Officer for Chrysler for nine years and a Controller for fifteen. I was in charge of ALL the financials, including State, Federal and Corporate taxes. It’s a pain in my ass but beneficial when April 15th rolls around.
 3. Dog Training. I have no clue how I learned this, but my dogs, past and present, are pretty well behaved. I don’t believe there are bad dogs, just bad owners and I never want to be the latter. Plus I never want dogs that just run amok. And if I’m really honest, I like having dogs that perform cute tricks. I guess I’m a bit of a show off.
 4. Landscaping. I love the outdoors and really enjoy doing my own planting. I’ve learned so much about Horticulture this way. The one thing I’ve never done, though, is mowed the lawn! THAT just seems SO boring! Good thing my husband likes it or I’d have to hire back my lawn mowing company!
 5. Organization. I can organize anything and I mean anything. If you have a messy, disorganized garage, closet, purse, office, desk—I’m your girl! I can whip it into shape! I think I have an efficiency chip in my head.

#3 Five Thing I’m Not Knowledgeable About:

1. Sports. I don’t watch football, hockey, baseball or even soccer. I’m just not into sports and would much rather spend my time reading, writing or creating something. I will watch my kids play sports though and my youngest is playing Basketball now, so I go to his games.
 2. Automobiles. I know about Makes and Models and I know how to check the oil and where the gasoline goes, but I don’t fill my tank, my husband does. I’ve never learned to change a tire because I’ve had a cell phone since before they became popular and were bigger than some women’s purses so I could always call my husband, my Dad, one of my brothers, or a service center.
 3. Foreign Affairs. I don’t know as much as I’d like about what’s going on in other countries. I pay attention to the news, read and research, but there is so much and the world is huge and I only have so much time…I guess I’ll just have to keep plugging away until it all clicks.
4. Art. I appreciate art of all varieties but don’t know as much as I'd like about Picasso, Monet, Rembrandt and many of the other popular artists. I know a few of their pieces and can spot a Monet or a Rembrandt, but would really like to KNOW more about these fantastic artists of our past as I think it gives us a greater appreciation for their work and Art in general.
5. Music. I like all music, except Rap, but I don’t know all the instruments and I absolutely suck at band and singer names. I listen to Beethoven but couldn’t tell you, Oh that’s Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, when I hear it. I would really like to know his songs by heart, as well as Mozart’s.

 #4 Five Things I Believe:

1. Honesty is the best policy.
2. What goes around comes around.
3. You make time for what’s important.
4. The worst lies are the ones you tell yourself.
5. Your character is determined by what you’ll do when no one is looking.

#5 Five Things I Like:

 1. Books. I'll read anything, although, I’ve read less than half a dozen Mystery novels in my entire life. It’s not that they aren’t good; they just aren’t my genre. My favorite genre is Romance.
 2. Coffee. I don’t just like coffee, I LOVE it! I could drink it all day. Actually, most days I do. I drink it with lots of cream and sugar (Splenda), so it’s very sweet.
 3. Shoes. Up until last year I had over two hundred sixty pair of shoes and boots. I decided enough was enough because there were quite a few that hadn’t even been worn! Since then I’ve been wearing them—enjoying them, and when they get yucky, I pitch them, so my count is dwindling a little.
4. Charmed- the TV Series. I didn’t watch it when it was a popular TV series and only got into it when I saw an episode as a re-run then purchased the First Season on DVD. I liked it enough to purchase the remaining seven seasons. Now every morning I watch re-runs on TNT! I’ve had to have seen each episode almost ten times! I have NO idea WHY I watch this show this much, but I do and that’s okay.
 5. Being Creative. Whether it’s writing for my blogs or my journals or scrap booking, making or altering clothes, taking pictures or making jewelry, I just really enjoy creating something. I’d really like to take an art class to learn how to draw better and also a photography class to learn how to take better pictures.

There you have it. Five fives about me. Do you have some interesting tidbits you'd like to share about yourself?
