I'd Rather Scream & Swear

I wonder if I’m delusional.

When I was younger and worked full-time, sometimes sixty hours or more a week, and had young children, I barely had time to change my mind. During those years I had a housekeeper, a hair stylist, a nail technician, a landscaper, a window cleaner, someone to pick up the dog poop from my yard and I even had my dry cleaning picked up and delivered, yet I STILL couldn’t find time to read a book.

Now that my boys are older and I only work part-time, I STILL barely find time to read a book! Granted, I don’t have all those extras, like a housekeeper and a pooper-scooper guy, but where the heck is my time going? I was under the impression that the older I got, the easier it became. It seems, though, that I am still struggling to find ME time. What the heck am I doing wrong?

Then this last week I was totally frazzled. My Jeep went on the fritz. Granted, it’s ten years old. It’s in good shape though with only seventy-four thousand miles. However, being ten years old, things are bound to break, and my air conditioner compressor decided to go caput during eighty degree weather while I’m having hot flashes every twenty minutes. Great, huh?

The ironic thing, I barely used the damn air conditioner because it bothers my sinuses! So how it even got bad to begin with baffles the hell out of me. Well, I couldn’t take it, so I went car shopping.

Now, I’ve always been an impulse shopper. Apparently I’ve changed because it took me FOUR days to decide on a vehicle. Then I almost didn’t buy one. I really didn’t want a NEW vehicle THIS year. My PLAN was to get one NEXT year. But shit happens. So, I now have a new vehicle and my son has my old one and his beast is sitting in the drive-way.

Do plans EVER work out the way we intend?

This is where my delusional part comes in to play. Am I delusional to think that I can make plans and that they will actually work out the way I intend? Do you folks make plans? Do they work out? Or are you like me and have to tweak them because something pops up and messes with them? And if something messes with them, how do YOU handle THAT?

And how the heck do I get through this menopause without dying?! I know I’m not the only woman who has gone through it or is going through it…and I know it won’t kill me, but my GAWD! I feel like SHIT! I’m so freaken hormonal! It’s worse than PMS.

Forgive me for being all over the place. I’m a mess!

But on a lighter note— Happy Memorial Day!

  1. Pam, I LOVE your title for this post. It made me crack up!!!!

Yes, isn't something about time? It seems the more we have free time, the harder it is to get things accomplished. I'm actually much better at accomplishing things if I busy, because then I plan things out on my calendar, so I get it done. Yet, when I have TONS of free time, I'm all over the place!

Congrats on your new car!!!! And honey, I'm the SAME way when it comes to picking out a vehicle. In fact, I'm the same way when it comes to picking out ANYTHING. I'm a  typical Libra, we have a hard time making decisions. Yet, when it comes to big life decisions, I can make them in a snap. Isn't that weird?

"Do plans EVER work out the way we intend?"

Well, as far as I can tell, no. But usually (for me, anyway) they usually turn out BETTER than intended. Yet, I don't usually realize that until after it happens.

OMG...talk about menopause and PMS. I felt like that yesterday. Between the heat and humidity we've been having, and the nasty customers I encountered at work, I wanted to scream. In fact, I think I did - HA!

Great post, my friend! Sending ya a BIG hug...

    (((((((((((((((((((((( You ))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Have a fantabulous rest of your weekend. And Happy Memorial Day to you and your family!

  2. Ooh ooh!  It's gonna let me comment!  Yippee!!

Ahem.  Sorry.  The only time MY plans work out is when we agree on a time to meet somewhere for dinner and everyone gets there within a few minutes of the time we set.  I've tried not to make plans any bigger than that.

As for the menopause, well sweetie, if you figure out some way through this without going stark raving mad?  Please let me know!  It sounds like you suffer way more than I do though.  My worst complaint so far is waking up at all hours of the night, sometimes multiple times a night because of the sweats.  I do have hot flashes but they're not frequent and so far I've been able to deal.

I opted out of traditional hormone replacement therapy but I've had good results with over the counter meds like Estroven and the generic versions of that.  For what that's worth.

Hang in there my friend; it IS supposed to get better...eventually.

  3. My plans seem to work out, but only because they get modified along the way. In the end, it seems like they are working out, but I have never really gone back in time to consider whether they were the original plans. I think that's called living in the moment.

  4. Bubbe, Yeah! You got to post!

Dinner plans and family get-togethers work out okay on my end, for the most part! Amazing, with so many kids! Maybe I should STOP trying to make plans and just go with the flow...but I'm not sure I'm capable of that!

If I figure out a way to NOT go stark raving mad, you'll be the FIRST to know! I'm up all night long, too. I would love to get ONE good night of sleep. I've opted out of hormone replacement therapy too. But I want to look into natural methods. I'll let you know what I find.

    I'm hanging...by my fingernails!

    Thank you!

  5. Bill, I have to modify mine too. Maybe that's what most people do?? I'm going to have to ask more people to find out. Survey time!! lol.

Going back in time...ah...interesting plot for a story! ;-)

  6.  I make plans, I change my plans when said plans go to hell in a hand basket....Then I scrap the whole plan and start over. It's a vicious cycle, but it keeps me busy so that I have no time to dwell on the fact that I'm ALWAYS hot, I sweat like a whore in church during the night, my mood swings would give a normal person whiplash and I CAN'T STOP EATING....

  7. Grammy, I make long term plans and they get shot to shit. I hate that.

I used to be cold all the time. Now I'm like you, sweating like a whore in a church (ROFLOL!). And yes, the mood swings are like being on a freaken roller coaster that NEVER ends! WTF? I'm hungry but for FOOD, like BIG meals.

Well, we can whine to each other, k? Because my hubby and kids are about sick of me ;-)

  8. Ah...menopause.  I remember it with absolutely no fondness.  Especially the temperature changes that would swing from raging hot to freezing cold in five minutes...
I used the over the counter herbal remedies, especially those with black cohosh and cranberry extract, and they did help.
You'll get through this, as do we all...some of us by planting our hot butts into a floor freezer in the middle of the grocery store....or our heads.

  9. Jo, yes the temperature changes are terrible! I spent most of my life being cold and now I'm battling hot flashes. I never thought of sticking my head, or butt, or maybe even my whole body, in a freezer! I have one in my garage!

I can see it now. My husband will come home from work, all the frozen food will be on the garage floor and I'll be sitting in the freezer telling him, "I'm SO freaken HOT!"

It wouldn't surprise him. Nothing I do does. ;-)

I'll get through it. I just wish it wouldn't take so long!
